Questions

Is income from foreign clients taxable in India?

Yes. If you are resident in India, your foreign client income is taxable here as professional or business income, whether it arrives by PayPal, Payoneer, Wise, Skydo or SWIFT.

Do I need GST if all my clients are abroad?

Exports of services are zero-rated under section 16 of the IGST Act. Registration is generally required once aggregate turnover crosses ₹20 lakh (₹10 lakh in special category states). Registered exporters usually file an LUT in form RFD-11 to export without paying IGST.

Do freelancers have to file the RBI EDF?

The 2026 Regulations require service exporters to file an EDF. On 7 Oct 2026 RBI said individuals on contracts of a personal nature need not report. As of 17 Oct 2026 the promised FAQ is not out. Ask your bank and see our EDF FAQ.
